In the world of brewing, where science meets creativity, the four key ingredients of water, barley, hops, and yeast come together to create something something very close to my heart. These ingredients are carefully selected and artfully combined, give birth to a vast spectrum of flavors, aromas, and textures. Let's explore the ingredients.

Water : Water makes up about 90-95% of the total ingredients in beer. The remaining 5-10% is made up of malted barley, hops, yeast, and other spices/fruits/ingredients. The type of water used in brewing can have a significant impact on the flavor of the beer. Craft breweries in India, like those in Bangalore, often pay special attention to the quality of water they use. They may adjust the mineral content of the water to achieve the desired profile for their craft beers, ensuring a unique taste that reflects the local brewing traditions.

Barley: Barley is the most important ingredient in beer. Craft breweries in India, carefully select malted barley from various countries to create the wort, which is the sugar liquid derived from converting the starch in the malt into sugars. This process is crucial as it provides the necessary fuel for the yeast to ferment and produce alcohol. Craft brewers may experiment with different types of malted barley, including those that are roasted or caramelized, to impart distinct flavours, colours, and body to their craft beers, offering a wide range of options to beer enthusiasts.

Hops: Hops, the flowers used in brewing, play a vital role in adding bitterness, aroma, and flavor to beer. Each variety of hops brings its own unique set of flavors and aromas, ranging from fruity to floral, earthy, or herbal. Craft brewers strategically incorporate hops into the beer during the boiling process which is the hot side in the brewing process or during fermentation and storage tanks, known as bright beer tanks, to achieve the desired taste and aroma.

Yeast: Yeast, a familiar ingredient used in baking, brewing, and wine making, holds a special place in the craft beer industry. Brewing yeast, a living organism, is responsible for fermenting the sugars in the malt into alcohol and carbon dioxide. Without yeast, the wort would remain unconverted and result in nothing more than barley juice. The choice of yeast greatly influences the beer we brew, allowing craft brewers to create a diverse range of craft beers.

India's craft beer scene has seen tremendous growth in recent years, with cities like Bangalore,Hyderabad,Mumbai,Pune becoming hotspots for craft breweries. These breweries focus on producing small-batch, artisanal beers that showcase creativity and innovation. Craft brewers in India often draw inspiration from traditional brewing techniques while incorporating local ingredients and flavors, resulting in a vibrant craft beer culture that appeals to beer enthusiasts.
